Hi everyone, it has been a long time since the last update, much has happened and I am here to share it all with you now.
First of all I would like to apologize for lack of content, but as Covid started to develope school got put on hold for a while. Even though we started back up I was so focused on everything else that I forgot to update the page. Being what it is, I updated the design of the website and plan on more updates regularly in the future as I start my final strech towards becoming a commercial pilot.
A little over a year ago the pandemic hit Denmark. When the country shut down so did the upcoming Exams at the time while we were almost done with the classes and ready for the final weeks leading up to the exams. Of course this was pretty frustrating as the plan was to start the next round of subjects directly after, so all the Theory would be completed before the nice summer weather. Unfourtunately exams were delayed for around 2 months until May.
The subjects taken were:
- Air Law
- Mass & Balance
- Airframe, Systems, Electrics, Power Plant
Air Law is all about well you guessed it the Laws of aviation. It ranges all from how ground operations work to a range of different scenarios while in the Air. Could be what to do while having an emergency being it with some hardware or a sick passenger.
Mass & Balance is about how masses are loaded onto an aircraft and how the weight should be distributed as to not have any unfavorable movements of the aircraft while in flight.
Airframe, Systems, Electrics, Power Plant is all about the aircraft itself ranging over almost every piece of hardware and software that are used on the daily to ensure safe flights from A to B. This is also where you get a taste of how the electric systems are coupled together as well as how fuel reaches the engines from the fuel tanks and what happens if a part fails how other methods keep the aircraft flying safely.
You can also now look at my current progress until the end of training on the new page (Link: Progress)
Finally after all the exams were done and passed we held off with the last round of subjects as the weather was getting better to fly. During the summer of 2020 all I did was fly which was amazing, a few trips with an instructor and the rest all by myself. This part of the program was all abount VFR (Visual Flight Rules) simply put, you fly by looking out the window instead of solely on instruments. After around 50 hours of solo flights it was time for my first Skill Test, the SEP(Land) or (Single Engine Piston Land) which I passed on the first attempt.
Here are a couple of pictures at the airports i flew to under this part of the program.
Right as I flew the Skill Test we had just started the “almost” last round of subjects. This was around October when the weather was slowly starting to get gradually worse for VFR flights, so you might say it was perfect timing.
The subjects taken were:
- Radio Navigation
- Instrumentation
- Operational Procedures
- Flight Planning & Monitoring
As we started this round of subjects it seemed like it was going to go to plan and no more delays. Exams were scheduled for start-mid december and all subjects on track for being ready to take these Exams. Little did I know that Covid was slowly making its way into my household. Come near the end of November I tested positive for Covid and was tied to my bed for 2 days. Luckily I got off easy and was back on my feet after only those 2 long days of being able to do almost nothing. Unfourtunatly the symtoms stuck almost another month, therefore I couldnt join in on the first couple of Exams. Even more unfourtunate the second set of exams were cancelled completely due to new regulations and delayed for an unknown amout of time.
Come January 2021 new Exams were scheduled but delayed again due to the standing regulations. Finally last month (February 2021) Exams dates were set and finally on the 10th & 17th of February Exams were passed and completed.
Now I said earlier “almost” last round of subjects. This is due to 2 subjects being introduced whilst on the program and one overhaning subject from second set which was Performance. The 2 subjects were already passed earlier with both radio certificates, but had to be taken again as an ATPL subject. And this past monday the 15th of March 2021 the last Exams were passed and completed, givning me much satisfaction and a huge amount of weight lifted off my shoulders. Also bumped from 1 stripe to 2 stripes.
This is kind of a long read I know, hope you enjoyed it and look forward to more updates in the future as I start my IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) Training in the coming weeks.
BEV, over and out.
